Highlights of Manny Pacquiao’s Win Over Shane Mosley

Manny Pacquiao Vs Shane Mosley: Who's the Winner?

One of the biggest boxing fights of the year takes place this Saturday as Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley duke it out for the WBO welterweight title. Mosley looks for his first win in over a year while the Pac Man hopes to extend his 13-fight winning streak.

If there is any chance that Mosley has of pulling off the upset it will come in the first few rounds. Mosley just appears to be too old in his last few fights to fight a competitive fight for 12 rounds. His last fight with Sergio Mora was not very exciting and while he had a great second round against Floyd Mayweather, it was a one sided drubbing. At this point it appears Mosley may have peaked with his TKO win over Antonio Margarita.

Pacquiao is a machine and is always looking for the knockout whether it is the first or twelfth round. His last three fights have gone the distance, yet the Pac Man was never in any serious danger in any of them. He obliterated Miguel Cotto who probably had the best chance of Pacquiao’s last few opponents of beating him. His twelve round decision win over Margarito in his last fight was a one-sided affair in a bout that would have never happened if not for Mayweather’s reluctance to fight Pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley

Pacquiao has averaged 85.6 punches per round and a 47 percent power connect rate at welterweight. The breakdown also points out Pacquiao’s lengthy bursts of bone breaking flurries of punches in later rounds of recent fights. There is no way that Mosley can withstand that kind of punishment for twelve rounds and keep up with the Pac Man’s speed.

Mosley’s numbers are a mix of good and bad when breaking down his last few fights. In his last fight against Mora, Mosley was superior allowing Mora to land just 18.3% of his shots. Those reflexes are impressive for a guy Mosley’s age. However, the numbers aren’t so favorable in the Mayweather fight which was just a blowout in favor of Money. Mayweather outlanded him overall 208-92, connecting on 46.1 percent of his power shots.

Yet as even Mosley’s biggest supporters will concede, he is going to have a hell of a time keeping up with the speed and brutality of Pacquiao.

Plenty of athletes tweeted their excitement at the news of Osama bin Laden's death. Rashard Mendenhall, however, wasn't convinced a celebration was in order.

"What kind of person celebrates death?" the Pittsburgh Steelers running back tweeted. "It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side..."

Rashard Mendenhall also expressed his opinions on whether the planes that hit the World Trade Center on September 11 caused them to collapse.

"We'll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style," Mendenhall said.

Steelers President Art Rooney II addressed Rashard Mendenhall's comments in a statement posted on the team's website.

“I have not spoken with Rashard so it is hard to explain or even comprehend what he meant with his recent Twitter comments,” Rooney said. “The entire Steelers’ organization is very proud of the job our military personnel have done and we can only hope this leads to our troops coming home soon.”

The Los Angeles Lakers regained their homecourt advantage Friday night with a 100-86 victory against the Hornets in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series, but they hardly looked like the well-oiled machine that has rolled to the past three N.B.A. Finals.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 30 points on 10-of-20 shooting and Pau Gasol added 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Lakers took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, which resumes Sunday at New Orleans Arena.

Phil Jackson, the Lakers coach, had promised that Bryant would take more than the 10 shots he tried in a 9-point victory in Game 2 in Los Angeles, when he concentrated on containing the Hornets’ Chris Paul. And so it was. After 10 minutes, Bryant had 10 points; he took 11 shots in the first half.

The Lakers led by 13 points after Bryant made a 3-pointer in the first minute of the third quarter. But they could not find another gear to shake off the Hornets, who pulled to 5 points behind, at 73-68, in the final minute on a 15-footer by Paul, who finished with 22 points and 8 assists.

Bryant started the fourth quarter on the bench, which left Gasol as the team’s go-to player. He responded with 7 points in less than four minutes, including the 3-pointer, as the Lakers outscored the Hornets, 25-16, in the final 11 minutes 16 seconds. (Reference)

Scott Parker has been awarded the prestigious Footballer of the Year award for 2011 by the Football Writers' Association, becoming only the second West Ham player to be honoured after the great Bobby Moore.

The award is recognition for the excellent form that Scott Parker has displayed despite playing for a team in West Ham that has battled against relegation all season. The midfielder has also enjoyed a resurgence in his international prospects with England of late.

Scott Parker, currently suffering from an Achilles injury, is having a series of injections to try and speed up his recovery given that West Ham are fully embroiled in a relegation battle. [Reference]

The motto for the next generation of extreme-climbers who scale the forbidding peaks of Yosemite National Park in California may as well be this: Mountaineering tools are for wusses. So-called free-climbers pit themselves against the swooping, protruding faces of Yosemite using little more than their own chalked-hands-on-rock agility.

This is not to say that free-climbers scorn all amenities. As they pitch tents alongside a mountain face, suspended thousands of feet above the ground, they sip coffee from their own French presses, and fiddle with their iPhones, which run on solar-powered chargers. Say whatever you will about the Yosemite crew's death-defying stunts: At this elevation, they probably get pretty good cell reception.

LOS ANGELES — After starting the second period on such a high note Tuesday night, the Kings hit rock bottom before it ever ended.

The San Jose Sharks scored five goals in the second period to tie the score in Game 3 of the Western Conference quarterfinal, then won it, 6-5, on Devin Setoguchi's overtime goal, sending a shell-shocked Staples Center crowd walking slowly to the exits.

In the opening minute of the second period, the Kings extended their lead to four goals against the second-seeded San Jose Sharks, but then seemed to throw their gears into neutral, becoming helpless to stem San Jose’s surge.

Patrick Marleau slipped one by Kings goalie Jonathan Quick to cut the deficit to 4-1.

Two minutes later, Dustin Penner went to the penalty box for an unnecessary roughing penalty at center ice. Ryan Clowe scored on the ensuing power play to cut the lead in half.

With about 6 ½ minutes remaining in the period, Logan Couture gathered in a cross-pass from Ian White and slammed it into the side of the net to cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Kings then got some energy back when Ryan Smyth scored 13 seconds later to retake a two-goal lead, but the Sharks turned Staples Center into a library when Clowe scored with 1:25 left in the period, followed by Joe Pavelski's goal with 31 seconds showing on the clock, putting the game back at square one and leaving the crowd gasping.

The San Jose Sharks lost the second game of the series, 4-0, on Saturday night, then fell behind, 3-0, after one period of Game 3. They didn’t pack it in, however.

The Kings and their fans will have two days to regroup, as Game 4 is Thursday night back at Staples Center. [Reference]

BOSTON – There has been frustration. There have been some quiet complaints and some lengthy explanations about the lack of movement in the offense. There was even the time in late March when Ray Allen, upset over having played 36 minutes in a loss to the Pacers and getting just eight field-goal attempts, walked out of the locker room without speaking to reporters after the game—a rare brush-off from one of pro sports’ most professional participants.

After a night like the one Ray Allen had on Sunday here at TD Garden, though, it’s easy to push all that tumult and tension aside. That’s because Allen was in full playoff-hero form in Game 1 against the Knicks, scoring 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting and knocking down the game-winning 3-pointer with 11.6 seconds to play, helping the Celtics avoid an upset with an 87-85 win.

The Boston Celtics sat three of its Big Four and fell into the third seed in the Eastern Conference.

That’s not to say that Ray Allen hasn’t been worried about shooting—or not shooting, as it were—over the past month or so. He’s been a muffled marksman of late, an awkward position for the game’s all-time leading 3-point shooter. Game 1 marked Allen’s first 20-point outing since March 19, a span of 12 games. That’s the longest run of sub-20-point games he has had since 1999. Allen averaged 12.3 points over this stretch, and simply wasn’t getting many looks at the basket, averaging just 9.7 shots per game.

Allen has linked his struggles to the Celtics’ overall struggles, especially their sudden inability to move the ball. That was a problem again in Game 1, but Boston was able to fight through it.

But there’s no question that as the Celtics fell into a late-season swoon, especially on the offensive end, Allen’s inability to get his scoring going was the most glaring weakness. Boston was 18-4 in the regular season when Allen topped 20 points. Finding a way to get him back on track is a necessity for this team’s postseason success — especially when there is a big shot that needs making, as with Ray Allen’s clinching 3-pointer. (Reference)

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Rory McIlroy is rebounding quite nicely after his collapse in the final round of the Masters.

The 21-year-old from Northern Ireland shot an 8-under 64 in the rain-shortened second round of the Malaysian Open on Friday and shares the lead with Alexander Noren of Sweden at 11-under 133. Nore had a 69 to go with his first-round 64.

Play at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club was halted for nearly three hours before it resumed. Later, it was suspended because of thunder and lightning.

Masters champion Charl Schwartzel was among 77 players who failed to complete their rounds. Play is scheduled to resume Saturday.

Rory McIlroy led last week's Masters for 63 holes before a back nine of 43 crushed his hopes of winning a major tournament.

He said he's in "great position" heading into the weekend.

"It helps when you have a morning tee time here as you are up pretty early," Rory McIlroy said of Friday's round. "I went out and played well, and holed a couple of putts. I've been driving the ball pretty good, which you need to around here."

Simon Dyson of England was one stroke off the lead after shooting a 64, while top-ranked Martin Kaymer of Germany was eight strokes back after a 71.

Noren struggled with the tropical weather.

"I had 14 great holes, but the heat got to me and I was just counting how many holes I had left," he said. (Source)
